The 'tranny' slur at House Oversight (Feb. 5, 2025)
At a February 5, 2025 House Oversight hearing, Rep. Mace repeated an anti-transgender slur three times on the record in direct response to a colleague's parliamentary objection.

On February 5, 2025, during a House Oversight & Government Reform Committee hearing, Rep. Mace used an anti-transgender slur in her remarks. When Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) raised a parliamentary objection to her use of the term, Mace responded from the dais:
"Tr*nny, tr*nny, tr*nny! I don't really care! You want penises in women's bathrooms and I'm not gonna have it. No, thank you. It's disgusting."
She repeated the slur three times in direct, on-the-record response to Connolly's objection. The exchange was broadcast live on C-SPAN and widely covered by national outlets.
The hearing moment did not occur in isolation. The month before, in December 2024, Mace had posted on X defending her use of the same slur: "If 'tr****s' is considered a slur then 'cis' should be too." In April 2025, at an Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition speech, she asked the crowd for permission to say the word before repeating it three times to laughter. That same month, at a Turning Point USA event at the University of Southern California, a 20-year-old transgender student asked Mace to apologize for the slur; Mace responded by questioning whether the term is derogatory and repeating it again.
Mace has not apologized for any of the instances. Her stated position is that the term is not a slur and that its use is justified by her policy views on bathroom access.
