Anti-Trans Mace Shows Up at a Dorchester School Board Meeting to Back Parents Protesting a Transgender Teacher
On the night of August 18, 2026, Rep. Nancy Mace turned up at a Dorchester School District Four board meeting to back families protesting a fourth-grade teacher who is transitioning genders. 'These parents who are here tonight, they care,' Mace told the board during public comment, adding that 'these families are here because you know accommodations were made.' About ten people spoke. No South Carolina law bars a transgender person from teaching, and the district said it is legally obligated to respect its employees' rights. The ACLU of South Carolina said transgender teachers 'have every right to show up in the classroom without being harassed or intimidated.' The appearance drops a sitting member of Congress into a local school fight and fits Mace's long, self-documented record of anti-transgender statements. First reported by Live 5 News (WCSC).

A sitting member of Congress does not usually turn up at a rural county school board meeting. On the night of August 18, 2026, Rep. Nancy Mace did, and the reason was a single fourth-grade teacher who is transitioning genders.
Mace took the microphone during public comment at a Dorchester School District Four board meeting in support of families who had gathered to protest the teacher. In her own words, as Live 5 News reported it:
"These parents who are here tonight, they care. I want you to know that these families are here because you know accommodations were made."
That is the whole of what she said on the record. The bigger fact is the choice to be there at all: Mace has spent much of 2026 building a national profile on the transgender issue, and here she carried that campaign down to a local elementary-school personnel matter, lending a member of Congress's platform to an effort aimed at one teacher whom neither the district nor the reporting has named.
What the meeting was about
According to Live 5 News, the families gathered to protest a teacher who is currently transitioning genders. About ten people spoke during the public comment portion of the meeting. The concern centers on a fourth-grade classroom: one parent told the board that "fourth graders are young."
Reporting from ABC News 4 (WCIV) places the flashpoint earlier in the month, when a group of DD4 families first raised concerns and said they planned to address the board; several families asked to move their children out of the teacher's class, and, per Live 5, others removed their children from the school entirely.
Two facts sit underneath the whole dispute, both reported by Live 5:
- No state law bars someone from teaching if they are transgender. The families' objection is not that the teacher broke a rule. It is, in their words, that the situation is "inappropriate."
- Neither the teacher nor the school has been publicly named.
One parent addressed the board directly:
"Parents have the fundamental right to direct the upbringing, education, and moral formation of their children. Fourth graders are young, and parents should be informed and involved when schools introduce issues of gender identity."

The other side, in their own words
Not everyone at the meeting was there to protest. The ACLU of South Carolina's Paul Bowers spoke in support of the teacher and of transgender people generally:
"Public schools are for everyone. Part of an education is learning to live alongside our neighbors, respect each other's differences, and find what unites us as human beings. Transgender people, including teachers and students, have every right to show up in the classroom without being harassed or intimidated."
The district did not take a side against its own employee. Dorchester School District Four issued a full statement that leaned on the confidentiality it owes any staff member. In its words:
"We want our parents and community to know that we hear you, we respect your concerns, and we take them seriously. While respecting your rights to express your opinion regarding matters in the District, the District is also legally obligated to respect the rights of employees of the District, including their right to have their individual employment matters be treated confidentially."
And:
"We are committed to providing a safe, respectful, age-appropriate educational environment in which children can learn without being placed in the middle of adult issues or controversies... The District will not discuss or debate an individual employee's personal circumstances on social media or through public statements."
The full district statement is reproduced in the Live 5 News report.
The pattern this fits
Mace's appearance did not come out of nowhere. It lands on top of a long, dated, self-documented record of anti-transgender statements, most of it in her own words. In 2026 alone:
- July 21, 2026: at a House Oversight hearing, questioning Smithsonian director Dr. Anthea Hartig, “So when was your gender revealed to you, Dr. Hartig?”
- July 26, 2026: on X, “If you think your child is trans, your child should be removed from your home to safety.”
- August 4, 2026: on her official House account, “There is no such thing as a trans kid,” which she followed a day later by endorsing a reply that called the parents of transgender children "fcked up parents."
Earlier entries include her November 2024 resolution barring transgender women from Capitol restrooms, filed days before Rep. Sarah McBride's swearing-in; her March 2025 “Estrogen doesn't love you” reply to a transgender person's transition photo; and her September 2025 remark that transgender people “should be in a straitjacket with a hard steel lock on it.” The full, dated, sourced record lives in the transgender section of the Hate Speech hub.
Set against that record, showing up in person to back parents protesting one transitioning teacher is not an outlier. It is the same campaign, brought to a fourth-grade classroom in Summerville. Readers can weigh her stated framing, that this is about parents and children, against the district's position, that it is legally bound to protect an employee who broke no law, and the ACLU's, that a transgender teacher has the right to teach without harassment. Maceopedia lays those out side by side and adopts none of them.

September 20, 2026 · DispatchJudge Judy on Nancy Mace: It's Ridiculous.
Rep. Nancy Mace told TMZ on September 14 that Lindsay Clancy, a defendant no jury has convicted, deserves a public execution by firearm or electric chair. The next day TMZ put Mace's call to Judith Sheindlin, Judge Judy, on the same sidewalk beat. Sheindlin said there was no question Clancy killed her children and that the only question was whether there was an excuse for it, told the reporter to make up his own mind, and warned of a danger in not retrying the case. Then TMZ asked her about Mace's call for a public execution. Her answer was three words: I think it's ridiculous. This is Maceopedia's record of both TMZ clips, every quote verbatim and attributed.
September 3, 2026 · Dispatch'She's Going to Walk Free Because of This Pink Mob': Nancy Mace's Lindsay Clancy TMZ Hit Manufactured a Racial Controversy Around Two Claims That Are Provably Wrong, One of Them About the Law
On September 2, 2026, with the Lindsay Clancy jury deadlocked into its fifth day, Rep. Nancy Mace stopped to talk to TMZ in Washington and turned the Massachusetts murder trial into a racial controversy. She told the camera the 'pink mob' of women supporting Clancy would abandon her 'if she were Black,' that 'the left is inherently racist,' and that Clancy is 'going to walk free because of this pink mob.' The two claims driving the segment do not survive the facts. Mace named no case to support the racial charge, and 'walk free' is not what the law provides: Clancy's defense is asking the jury for a verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity, which in Massachusetts means indefinite commitment to a locked psychiatric hospital, not release; a deadlocked jury means a retrial, not freedom; and Clancy has been held in a state psychiatric hospital the entire time. This is Maceopedia's record of the interview, every quote verbatim and attributed.
