On the evening of April 21, 2026, Mace appeared at the Sottile Theatre at the College of Charleston for the second South Carolina Republican gubernatorial debate. The debate ran from 7 to 8 PM. All six candidates participated: Nancy Mace, Alan Wilson, Pamela Evette, Ralph Norman, Rom Reddy, and Josh Kimbrell.
Her father's funeral was two days later: April 23, 2026 at 5:00 PM, Summerall Chapel, The Citadel.
She debated April 21. Her father was buried April 23. Her claim is that she left the campaign for "about six weeks."

"About six weeks" from April 14 would be May 26. The record does not support a six-week absence at any point in that window.
