'I Want You to Know It's Not Real': Nancy Mace Pulls Off Her Wig Topper on Camera and Says PTSD Has Cost Her About Half Her Hair

On the morning of October 4, 2026, Nancy Mace posted a three-minute video to her own YouTube channel titled 'Nancy Mace Reveals Her SECRET to Good Hair.' Seated in her Get Maced studio, she says the hair people have been complimenting is 'not real,' says she has lost 'about half my hair' and attributes that to PTSD, lists the peptides, vitamins, topicals, Rogaine and methylene blue she says she uses, and then, at about 1:38, unclips a human-hair 'wig topper' on camera, holds it up, and parts her remaining hair with both hands to show her scalp. She finishes the video without the topper on. Every quote below is verbatim from her video. Maceopedia takes no position on her health; this entry records what she said and showed, and sets it beside her earlier public posts about her hair.

Source note: this dispatch is built on a video Nancy Mace posted to her own YouTube channel on October 4, 2026. The quotes are verbatim from that video, checked against the audio. Her earlier statements about her hair are quoted from her own X accounts, with the original posts linked and shown. Maceopedia does not evaluate anyone's health. "PTSD" appears here because it is the word she uses.

"I've had a lot of compliments recently about my hair. I want you to know it's not real."

That is how Nancy Mace opens a three-minute video she uploaded to her YouTube channel at 8:07 a.m. Eastern on Saturday, October 4, 2026, under the title "Nancy Mace Reveals Her SECRET to Good Hair." She is seated in the studio where she records her Get Maced podcast, the neon sign visible behind her. About a minute and a half in, she reaches up, unclips a hairpiece, holds it beside her face, and then parts what is left with both hands to show the camera her scalp.

What she says, in order

The timestamps are from her upload.

0:07. "I want you to know it's not real. I've been working on it. I have PTSD, as you know. I've been very public about that, but recently, especially over the last three years, I've lost, I want to say I've lost about half my hair. I started with very thick hair, but there have been points in time over the last years where I could see some of my scalp coming through, so I have different places where it's really thinning out."

0:29. "I take a lot of peptides. I take vitamins. I put topicals. I do Rogaine in the mornings, and I do Methylene Blue topical at night. I'm doing all the things right now. I think peptides have been the most effective for my hair loss, and I'll speak more about that later."

0:59. "I have been wearing a wig topper, so this is not real. Now, you know, you got to blend it in. You're not going to believe it, but this is not my hair. I mean, some of it obviously is, but this, look at that. See? It's a wig topper, and it has three little clips. It's real human hair. It costs less than a hundred bucks."

1:31. "It has just made such a difference in my life to be able to have this wig topper, but I still have a lot of hair, but I have to vacuum the floors so much because of the hair loss. It looks good today because it's clean hair, but tomorrow it'll be really noticeable."

2:01. "So this little guy I put on when I want to style my hair, and it gives me such confidence because of the hair loss that I've suffered having PTSD. It's been significant, and I've spent a lot of money trying to figure out how to get my hair to grow. I've been experimenting with peptides recently, and I feel like that's had the most impact on stemming the tide. It hasn't stopped the fallout, but it certainly has lessened the fallout."

2:40. "I vacuum all the time because I have hair everywhere, and if you see me on public, you'll see hair on all my clothes. Like it's, it's nonstop. But I'm lucky I started with a thick, thick head of hair. But yeah, it's not real."

In sequence: from 1:00 to 1:16 she repeatedly reaches to the top of her head and lifts the edge of the piece to show the clips. At about 1:38, while saying "to be able to have this wig topper," her right hand goes to the crown and the topper comes off. From 1:40 to 1:41 she holds it beside her face. From 1:43 to 1:45 she parts her own hair with both hands. She does not put it back on before the video ends at 3:00.

What she said about her hair before this

The October 4 video is not the first time she has raised the subject. The record, in her own posts:

February 28, 2025, on her official account @RepNancyMace: "At my haircut this morning, they said I've lost about half my hair over the last few months. This would be due to the PTSD I was diagnosed with last year. My own trauma and the vicarious trauma I have from assisting other victims has taken a physical toll." The post drew more than 19,000 likes. The next morning she thanked followers for "all the ideas and suggestions. I am taking notes. Will report back!"

March 5, 2025, on @NancyMace: "I've lost about half my hair due to PTSD from the horrific trauma I endured last year, so when some Leftist Loon makes fun of my hair I really DGAF. Doing the best I can with what little I have left."

May 31, 2025, on @NancyMace, with a photo of a bottle of Nutrafol Women's Balance: "Has anyone had any luck with this one? Hair loss from PTSD. I am trying several supplements. What do you use?"

July 3, 2025, in a reply: "I've lost a tremendous amount of hair due to PTSD, thanks for the advice though, but I'll pass."

August 5, 2025. In a 21-second interview clip circulated by the account @patriottakes, a host asks whether it is hard being "an attractive woman in Congress." Mace answers: "No, I think it's harder being a conservative woman right now. I mean, the way that the mainstream media, Democrats... if I want to walk in peace where I'm known, I have to put on a wig these days because I might get assaulted." The program is not identified in the clip.

Screenshot of @patriottakes post, August 5, 2025: Nancy Mace claims, for safety reasons, that she has to put on a wig in order to go out in public.

October 16, 2025, on @NancyMace, with a selfie: "Don't tell @KeithOlbermann but not only is my hair down, I'm growing out my gray and have NO makeup on today. Gasp!" More than 33,000 likes.

February 27, 2026. Politico Magazine's profile of Mace by Michael Kruse, "Nancy Mace Is a Mess. She Wants to Be Governor.", included the line: "She sometimes shops in a wig."

August 28, 2026, in a reply on @NancyMace to a post mocking a WNBA-related image: "I have this wig." with a laughing emoji.

The October 4 video is the first time she has shown the hairpiece itself, said what it is, or taken it off on camera.

The regimen she describes

She lists, in her words: "a lot of peptides," vitamins, topicals, "Rogaine in the mornings," and "Methylene Blue topical at night," and says peptides "have been the most effective." She has legislated on peptides before: on July 3, 2026 she posted that she had put a provision in the National Defense Authorization Act "removing peptides from the military's prohibited substances list." This entry does not assess any of these products or her results. It records what she said she uses.

The response

As of the evening of October 5, the video had about 23,000 views and 244 comments. The top comments, by likes, were uniformly supportive. The most-liked: "Just the courage you show by putting this out there meaning your not threatened by what people say! Love and respect for you Ma'am!!!" Others: "I would have never guessed." "Thank you for sharing your hair loss, I too have gone through ptsd- hair loss is one of my symptoms." One commenter asked where to buy the topper. No news outlet had covered the video as of that evening.

Context, kept to the record

Mace has said since 2024 that she has post-traumatic stress disorder, and she has tied it in public to her weight, her sleep, and her hair. The site's earlier entry on her "week 4" carnivore post collects those posts in one place. Ben Shapiro's August 2026 reading of the Politico profile, including the "shops in a wig" line, is in that dispatch. Her tattoos, revealed on the same podcast in August, are catalogued on the tattoo hub. This entry adds the October 4 video to that record and stops there.
