Nancy Mace breaks with Trump on his $5,000 "dividend" check - again, on her own show
Donald Trump promised a $5,000 "Trump dividend" if Republicans win the midterms. Nancy Mace replied on X: "No one is getting a $5k check." Then she went further on her own show, running the $1.3 trillion math on camera and asking why $5,000 is a "dividend" when $1,400 was "Venezuela."
At the Republican National Midterm Convention in Dallas, Donald Trump promised the crowd a payout for a November win: "So if the Republicans win, you win with us and you get $5,000. It will be called the Trump dividend." The money, his team said, would come out of tariff revenue.

His own party started qualifying it almost at once. On Fox News, Sen. Ted Cruz said he liked the idea only "as a tax refund," and drew a line on who should receive it: "I don't think we should be paying people that are not working, particularly those that are physically able to work, but choosing not to."

Then Rep. Nancy Mace went further than any of them. Replying on X, she skipped the hedging and contradicted the President outright: "No one is getting a $5k check."
The math is on her side. Sending $5,000 to every American would cost roughly $1.2 trillion, while tariff revenue is currently running under $200 billion a year. The promise and the money are nowhere close.

She said it again on her own show
The X post got noticed. But on Monday, September 14, Mace went much further on her own show, delivering a full on-camera monologue on "The Tab" segment of Get Maced. She ran the $1.3 trillion math. She named the McConnell and McCarthy GOP attacks on Biden's $1,400 checks. And she asked the question her own party was avoiding.

"And here is my promise. If the Republicans win the House of Representatives and the United States Senate, both of them, I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for $5,000."

"There are roughly 260 million adults in this country. 260 million times $5,000. That's about $1.3 trillion with a capital T."
On Ted Cruz narrowing the check to "people who work" only:
"Great message for the midterms, Ted, because you're leaving off seniors... Or the moms who decided to stay home to raise the kids, support their husbands who are working. What about them? Terrible message for seniors and for women."
On the bottom line:
"The real honest answer is no one's getting a $5,000 check. It's not coming from the Treasury. It's not coming from tariffs."
Then the core of the segment. She played her own party's attacks on Biden's $1,400 checks back against the $5,000 promise, verbatim:
"In 2021, when Joe Biden mailed out $1,400 checks, Mitch McConnell called it a grand socialist experiment... Kevin McCarthy, former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, said it would turn us into Venezuela. Every House Republican voted no, and I was one of them. Somebody needs to tell me with a straight face what we're calling a $5,000 check because the checkbook cannot tell the difference between a blue signature and a red one. If $1,400 was Venezuela and socialism a few years ago, I have questions about what a $5,000 check actually is. I have questions, don't you? $2,000 was socialism for rich people. So, what is $5,000? Is it a dividend? Somebody explain the exchange rate to me."

Breaks with Trump, again
The $5,000 check was not the only break this week. During a heated September 17, 2026 Piers Morgan Uncensored debate over radical Islam, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) turned the tables on journalist Mehdi Hasan by throwing one of his own deleted posts back at him. Mace reminded Hasan that after a fatal U.S. plane crash he had written "Make American Planes Crash Again," calling it "disgusting," "hypocritical," and "a bad joke about Donald Trump crashing planes." Hasan posted the line on February 16, 2025 as a jab at Trump over aviation safety, then deleted it the next day, calling it poorly worded. This is the same on-air clash in which Hasan called Mace "a racist bigot."

Rep. Nancy Mace told TMZ on September 14 that Lindsay Clancy, a defendant no jury has convicted, deserves a public execution by firearm or electric chair. The next day TMZ put Mace's call to Judith Sheindlin, Judge Judy, on the same sidewalk beat. Sheindlin said there was no question Clancy killed her children and that the only question was whether there was an excuse for it, told the reporter to make up his own mind, and warned of a danger in not retrying the case. She defended the lone holdout juror for conviction, called a mistrial "better than not guilty," and praised defense attorney Kevin Reddington's courtroom theatrics by saying he "deserves an Oscar." The next morning she told Dominique Lucre she had been "going toe to toe with Kevin Reddington" the night before and that she "enjoyed" it.

Hasan cited Mace's own public record: she tweeted "not all Muslims are terrorists, but all terrorists are Muslim," called for no Muslim American to hold public office, and publicly defended Dasha Kilpatrick, a woman who confronted Muslim shoppers at a Texas grocery store. Mace defended her comments as concern about radical ideology, not Muslims broadly.
