Ronald L. Richter, Jr. known professionally as Ronnie Richter, is a founding partner of Bland Richter, LLP, a boutique litigation firm with offices in Charleston and Lexington, South Carolina. A native of Charleston, Richter graduated from the College of Charleston in 1990 and earned his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1993, graduating in the top 20% of his class. He has practiced in South Carolina since bar admission in 1993.

Richter has built a practice in legal malpractice, medical malpractice, commercial litigation, estate litigation, and catastrophic personal injury. He is certified as a diplomat in Legal Malpractice by the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys, having recorded the highest score of any attorney tested to date, and was selected for the Super Lawyers list in 2015 in Professional Liability, one of only two attorneys in South Carolina to receive that recognition that year. Charleston Living Magazine named him Best Personal Injury Attorney in its "Best of the Holy City" awards in May 2024. Since forming Bland Richter with partner Eric Bland beginning in 1997, Richter and Bland have reported securing over $235 million in verdicts and settlements for clients.

Connection to the Nancy Mace record

Ronnie Richter, alongside founding partner Eric Bland and attorney Scott Mongillo, represents Brian Musgrave, one of four men publicly named by Rep. Nancy Mace in her February 10, 2025, House floor speech alleging drug and sex crimes. Musgrave denied all of Mace's allegations.

Before filing suit, Richter and Bland sent Mace's office a demand letter on Musgrave's behalf, requiring that she produce evidence supporting her claims, issue a public retraction, and apologize, or face litigation. Mace declined; House General Counsel directed inquiries to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).

On March 14, 2025, Richter and Bland filed a federal defamation complaint against Mace in U.S. District Court (District of South Carolina). On August 20, 2025, U.S. District Judge Richard Mark Gergel dismissed the case with prejudice under the Westfall Act, ruling that Mace's statements were protected as connected to her legislative duties. Richter and Bland represent Musgrave in a separate, subsequently filed defamation action against news outlets that allegedly republished Mace's allegations as fact.

Bland Richter also represented victims in the Alex Murdaugh financial crimes matter; those proceedings are unrelated to the Mace litigation.
