For more than a century it has run scouting programs for girls, best known publicly for its badge system and its annual cookie sale. On August 27, 2026, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC-1) turned the Girl Scouts into a target of her ongoing posts about Islam. Within six minutes that morning she posted about the group twice: first re-posting a niqab meme captioned "GIRL SCOUT TROOPS OFFER ISLAMIC FAITH PATCHES FOR LEARNING ABOUT ISLAM," then her own AI-generated image of a Girl Scout in full uniform with her face covered by a green veil, captioned "New Girl Scout uniform dropped." Two days earlier she had replied under a Rob Schneider post that the Girl Scouts were "promoting the oppression of women with the Islam badge."
The posts extended a viral claim, launched by War Room co-host Natalie Winters on August 24 and amplified by Laura Ingraham, Jack Posobiec and Laura Loomer, that the Girl Scouts were being "Islamized." Girl Scouts of the USA rejected the claim as misinformation, stating that it "is not a religious organization and does not teach religion" and that faith-specific patches "are developed by independent faith organizations, not Girl Scouts of the USA." The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) called the campaign around it "manufactured outrage."
