Mace vs. the Solicitor: the campaign against the prosecutor in her own cases (2025)
Beginning in June 2025, Rep. Nancy Mace publicly accused Ninth Judicial Circuit Solicitor Scarlett Wilson, the elected chief prosecutor whose circuit would handle the cases arising from Mace's own allegations, of leaking evidence, 'obstruct[ing] the investigation,' and protecting an abuser, and demanded Wilson recuse, be removed from all domestic-violence prosecutions, and face a state investigation. Wilson denied wrongdoing, noted SLED ran the investigation, and said the disclosure Mace called a 'leak' was a discovery obligation required by law. The Post and Courier reported Mace's office provided no evidence for the obstruction claim when asked. Allegations on all sides are unproven and contested.

Scarlett Wilson is the elected Ninth Judicial Circuit Solicitor, the chief state prosecutor for Charleston and Berkeley Counties, and the office that would carry to trial any criminal charges arising from the allegations Rep. Nancy Mace began making in her February 10, 2025 House floor speech. Starting in June 2025, Mace made that prosecutor a public target.
The two moves
June 19, 2025, the podcast. On the PBD Podcast, Mace named Wilson and accused her of leaking evidence, refusing to prosecute rape, and, in the line she built a threatened lawsuit around, having "inserted yourself into this investigation and … obstructed the investigation." Wilson's reply: "I have no idea what the Congresswoman is referring to." Her office noted the active probe belonged to SLED, not the Solicitor, and that solicitors prosecute only after law enforcement concludes. The Post and Courier reported that when it asked Mace's office, repeatedly, for evidence of the obstruction claim, none was provided. → Full dispatch
August 18, 2025, the press release. Mace put it on official congressional letterhead, under the headline "Solicitor Scarlett Wilson Tipped Off Abuser and Leaked Evidence to Harm Victim." She demanded Wilson "immediately recuse" from "any and all cases related to this victim," be "removed from all domestic violence prosecutions," and face "a full and immediate state investigation into Wilson's misconduct." Wilson answered that prosecutors are "required by law and ethical rules to provide all relevant information to the defense" and that she would not "play a part in the circus sideshow." → Full dispatch
Who was inserting themselves into the case
The throughline is a reversal. Mace's central charge against Wilson was that the prosecutor had improperly "inserted" herself into a criminal matter and "obstructed" it. What the public record documents is the opposite posture: a sitting member of Congress, who is herself the self-described victim and complaining witness, publicly branding the elected prosecutor for her own circuit a criminal, leaking evidence, tipping off an abuser, "lying" to a victim's attorney, and using official channels to demand that prosecutor be stripped of the cases connected to her and investigated by the state, all without (per The Post and Courier) producing evidence when asked. Wilson's stated basis for the one concrete act Mace called a "leak" was a discovery obligation the rules require of every prosecutor.
A prosecutor's independence from the people whose cases she handles is the ordinary safeguard against exactly this. The record here is of an interested party, powerful, public, and personally connected to the matters, working publicly to remove and discredit the prosecutor over them.
All allegations on every side remain unproven and contested. The men Mace named deny her allegations; Solicitor Wilson denies Mace's allegations against her; the matters are the subject of an active SLED investigation and ongoing civil litigation, and no underlying matter has been adjudicated. Nothing here is a finding of fact.
