"What is a woman?", Mace vs. Martin O’Malley
A supercut of three verbatim moments from Rep. Nancy Mace’s questioning of former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley at the January 15, 2025 House Oversight Committee hearing on federal telework, Mace’s challenge, O’Malley’s “distinguished woman” dodge, and Mace pressing again.
On January 15, 2025, former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley testified before the House Oversight Committee on federal telework and workforce policies, two days before he was elected chair of the Democratic National Committee. Rep. Nancy Mace questioned him.
This supercut stitches three verbatim moments from that exchange, each cut from the committee hearing footage and captioned word-for-word:
- “Can you, a candidate to be chair of the Democrat Party, define what a woman is for me today?”, Mace’s opening challenge to O’Malley.
- “I’m talking to a woman right now, distinguished woman.”, O’Malley’s response, gesturing toward Mace.
- “What is a woman? What is a woman?”, Mace pressing after O’Malley’s deflection. O’Malley went on to say he thought she was “kind of denigrating the purpose of this hearing.”
O’Malley was elected DNC chair on February 1, 2025. What the footage documents is a sitting congresswoman’s own words and a witness’s response at a public federal hearing.
