The 'Iron Lady' crashout

After President Trump endorsed Pamela Evette in the South Carolina governor's race, Rep. Nancy Mace posted a stylized 'IRON LADY' self-portrait to X. Commentators, including former GOP Rep. On May 31, 2026, after President Trump endorsed Lt. Governor Pamela Evette for the South Carolina Republican gubernatorial primary, Rep. Nancy Mace posted a stylized black-and-white portrait of herself to X under the single caption "IRON LADY", a reference to the nickname long associated with former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. The post drew immediate ridicule from across the political spectrum.

Former Republican congressman Adam Kinzinger wrote that Mace was "having a mental breakdown," according to reporting by Raw Story and The Daily Beast. GOP consultant Justin Evans described the post in similar terms, per the same coverage. Progressive commentator Jim Stewartson wrote directly on X: "So, we can all see she's having a mental breakdown, right? ... Anyway, please get help Nancy." Political writer John Daly asked his followers, "Should we be genuinely worried about her?"

Mace finished fifth in the June 10, 2026 primary, receiving approximately 2 percent of the vote.
