On October 3, 2023, Mace issued this statement explaining her vote to remove Kevin McCarthy as House Speaker:
"This isn't about left vs right. This isn't about ideology. This is about trust and keeping your word. This is about making Congress do its job."
Mace cited McCarthy's failure to advance her rape-kit backlog legislation, women's issues bills, and a balanced-budget amendment. McCarthy had endorsed Mace in her 2022 primary and helped raise over $200,000 for her campaign.
