"She should not have come forward": Nancy Mace on an Arizona candidate who says she was raped

On October 8, 2026, Rep. Nancy Mace posted on X about Bernadette Greene-Placentia, an Arizona congressional candidate who says she was raped while repairing a campaign sign: 'She should not have come forward, she will get excoriated for this.' Greene-Placentia told Phoenix New Times she spoke so women know 'it's okay to talk about it.' Mace's post, the candidate's own words, and Mace's own record on coming forward, from the South Carolina House floor in 2019 to her interview with Tara Palmeri in 2026.
