"How self-loathing are they": Mace asks "how many Jews voted for Mamdani," doubles down when Piers Morgan calls it "an extraordinary charge." Israel's UN ambassador, asked twice, declines to agree.
On the July 22, 2026 episode of Piers Morgan Uncensored, Rep. Nancy Mace reacted to NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani's call for the federal government to arrest Benjamin Netanyahu by asking "how many Jews voted for Mamdani," calling Jewish New Yorkers who backed him "self-loathing," and saying she is perplexed by "this guy coming to America eight years ago from Kampala." Mamdani moved to New York in 1999, at age 7; eight years ago matches his 2018 naturalization, not his arrival. When Morgan called her words "an extraordinary charge," Mace repeated them. Later in the same episode Morgan put her quote to Israel's UN Ambassador Danny Danon twice; Danon declined to agree both times.

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) said that about Jewish New Yorkers who voted for Mayor Zohran Mamdani, on camera, on the July 22, 2026 episode of Piers Morgan Uncensored. When Piers Morgan told her it was "an extraordinary charge to say that any Jewish person who voted for Mamdani is self-loathing," she answered: "I think it is self-loathing." And later in the same episode, when Morgan put her words to Israel's ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, twice, the ambassador declined to adopt them both times.

What Mamdani actually said
The segment was a reaction to a video statement New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani posted on X late Tuesday, July 21. As reported by the Associated Press via NPR, Mamdani said New York City lacks the power to execute the International Criminal Court's arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and called on Washington to do it instead:
"It is clear that we do not have the independent legal authority to enforce this warrant. The federal government however does and I call on them to join the ICC and execute this warrant."
"I want to be equally clear, Benjamin Netanyahu is not welcome in New York City, nor is any other war criminal at large."
The ICC issued arrest warrants in 2024 for Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, alleging crimes against humanity in the Gaza war, including the use of "starvation as a method of warfare," charges Israeli officials deny. Mamdani had campaigned on ordering city police to arrest Netanyahu; his July 21 statement conceded, after a legal review, that the city cannot. Netanyahu is expected in New York in September for the UN General Assembly. President Trump had posted the day before that Netanyahu "will not be arrested, in any way, shape, or form, while in the United States of America." Ambassador Danon responded to Mamdani's video with his own statement on social media, per the AP: "You were elected to serve New Yorkers, not Hamas' propaganda. Do your job!"

The exchange
Morgan opened by asking for her reaction (all timestamps are from the episode video):
Morgan [4:06]: "Nancy Mace, just on that issue of Benjamin Netanyahu, it's pretty extraordinary for the mayor of New York City to come out and demand he be arrested and say he wishes he could do that, but actually only the federal government can, and he urged them to do it. What is your reaction?"
Mace [4:23]: "Extraordinarily stupid. And one of the things that he said in his statement that you just showed, Piers, is that anyone affiliated with terrorism would be and should be arrested. Yet just days ago, members of his own staff were trying to meet with the IRGC, with Iranians. And the story is, the rumor is on Drudge Report today, that in his office, according to the FBI, he may have been trying to meet with Iranian officials. So it's crazy to me. And the second thing that comes to mind, and the question I think is very valid, is how many Jews voted for Mamdani? I just, to me, I'm just so perplexed by the whole idea of this guy coming to America eight years ago from Kampala, and all of a sudden he's sitting around trying to be president of the United States. He's mayor. And I agree with John Fetterman, go pick up trash, fill the potholes, get the homeless people off the streets, and maybe, just maybe, try to get an illegal alien not to murder our women and girls in New York City or rape them."

Two claims in that answer are examined in the fact check section below: the "eight years ago from Kampala" timeline, and the Iran meeting story, which Mace herself sourced to "the rumor... on Drudge Report today."
Morgan's first response was to note that Jewish voters were part of Mamdani's winning coalition, then to turn the question around:
Morgan [5:22]: "I mean, the interesting thing about the question you raise is that a lot of younger Jewish people did vote for him. That's one of the reasons he won. And, you know, that may be perplexing to you, but of course there is a rising tide of anti-Israeli sentiment across America. You know, a significant majority of Americans now have a negative view of what Israel's government's been doing and of the country, which is, you know, for people like me that love Israel and Israeli people, is extremely shocking, a sad state of affairs. But I would point to the activities of a lot of people in that government and say, well, that is the reason, you know, when you've got people like Ben Gvir, Smotrich, and these psychos doing terrible things, you are going to make your country very unpopular. Do you not have a concern about that?"
Mace [6:08]: "Well, I mean, that's up to the voters of Israel to decide who they want to have lead Israel. I mean, there is one Jewish state in the world, and that is Israel. And there are people across the globe that want to eradicate that. Just like in the Middle East, there's one Christian state in the Middle East, and that's Lebanon. And, you know, I have concerns about what's going on in Lebanon as well, but that's up to the Jewish people to decide. And, you know, I sort of look at this as how self-loathing are they that they elected someone, this guy, Mamdani, who clearly, I think, has ulterior motives. I mean, to me, I'm just scratching my head on how the hell we allowed this to happen in our country of all places."
"An extraordinary charge": Morgan pushes back, Mace doubles down
Morgan challenged the characterization directly:
Morgan [6:46]: "I mean, it's an extraordinary charge to say that any Jewish person who voted for Mamdani is self-loathing, isn't it?"

Mace repeated the charge in full:
Mace [6:52]: "I think it is self-loathing. You know, and I have a strong Jewish coalition in my district in Congress, and that's one of the things that we often talk about. And I brought it up to the issue of, up to people who hate Bibi, want them arrested, Jewish people. It's me, it's perplexing, it's confusing, and I don't know how any Jewish person could vote for a man like Mamdani and what he stands for."
Mace, at approximately 6:53: "I think it is self-loathing."
Morgan then moved the interview to other topics.
Asked twice, Israel's UN ambassador declines to agree
Roughly fifty minutes later in the same episode, Morgan interviewed Israel's ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, the man who had told Mamdani "Do your job!" the day before. Morgan quoted Mace's words to him directly:
Morgan [54:58]: "Earlier, I spoke to Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mace. She said that the Jews that voted for Mamdani in New York were self-loathing. Would you agree with that?"
Danon did not:
Danon [55:11]: "You know, I respect the democracy. You know, Israel is a strong democracy. One of the reasons we are so close to the American people because we have a real democracy... He got the overwhelming majority because he was a stronger candidate. He had a great campaign."
Morgan asked a second time:
Morgan [55:29]: "But what about the point that any Jews who voted for him are self-loathing? Would you agree with that?"
Danon [55:33]: "I don't want to give like points or grades to people who voted for him. I think they have to look at his actions and the expectations are not met. And I think people are disappointed, not only the Jews who voted for him, but the people in New York, because they see him dealing with issues he shouldn't be dealing with."

Twice offered the chance to endorse a sitting congresswoman's description of Jewish voters as "self-loathing," Israel's own ambassador to the UN, an outspoken critic of Mamdani, declined both times.

Fact check
"This guy coming to America eight years ago from Kampala." Mamdani was born in Kampala, Uganda, in 1991 and moved to New York City with his family in 1999, when he was seven years old. He became a naturalized US citizen in 2018. "Eight years ago" matches his naturalization year, not his arrival: by July 2026 he had lived in New York for about 27 years. Mediaite's report flagged the same discrepancy: "In reality, although Mamdani became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2018, he moved to New York City with his family in 1999, when he was just seven years old."
The Iran meeting claim. Mace's own sourcing, on air, was "the story is, the rumor is on Drudge Report today," and she framed it as what "may have been" happening "according to the FBI." It is a self-labeled rumor, presented without verification. Per Mediaite, the underlying story concerned reported plans by New York City's commissioner for international affairs to meet with Iran's ambassador to the United Nations, and Mamdani has said the meeting was "made in error" and never actually happened.
