Mace on the TSA line-skip video: 'This video is a misrepresentation'

Mace's office disputed a viral March 2026 video showing her and Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz being escorted past a TSA line at Reagan National, saying the escort was Capitol Police, not TSA, and was provided because of security threats.

A video posted to X in March 2026 appeared to show Mace and Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) being escorted past a TSA security line at Reagan National Airport (DCA) as hours-long lines formed during a partial government shutdown that left TSA officers working without pay. In response, Mace's office told Newsweek:

"This video is a misrepresentation. Last week, she flew through New York and waited in the standard TSA line like every other American."

Her office added: "She believes all Members of Congress should do the same."

Mace's office also said the escort in the video was a Capitol Police escort, provided because of security threats Mace faces, not a TSA or DHS courtesy escort, and that the video was filmed before the extended shutdown lines had developed. These are claims by Mace's office and are not independently confirmed.

TSA had suspended its congressional courtesy escort program on February 22, 2026, as part of shutdown restrictions; Capitol Police escorts operate under a separate authority. No enforcement action against Mace was reported.

Wasserman Schultz's office did not respond to Newsweek's request for comment.
