At a November 21, 2024 internet policy summit at Georgetown University, Evan Greer, a trans activist and director of the digital-rights organization Fight for the Future, unfurled a Pride flag and confronted Rep. Nancy Mace over her anti-trans rhetoric and her push for legislation restricting bathroom access, according to reporting by NBC News, LGBTQ Nation, and the Boston Globe. After Greer challenged Mace directly from the audience, Mace responded by misgendering Greer and saying, according to NBC News: "Well, first of all, you're a man." Mace added a crude remark that LGBTQ Nation attributed to her directly. The crowd audibly booed in response. Clips of the exchange, as documented by NBC News and LGBTQ Nation, passed 1 million views. Mace has not publicly retracted the remarks.
