"It's almost as if Patrick Bryant is asking to write me another check. I just got him sanctioned in court.", Rep. Nancy Mace, statement to Live 5 News

Live 5 News reporter Thomas Gruel was the first journalist to publish on November 6, 2025, when Patrick Bryant, Mace's ex-fiancé, filed a lawsuit accusing her of fabricating sexual assault allegations against him. The station provided the initial local market coverage of what would become a significant legal development in the tangled civil litigation between the two parties.

According to Live 5 News, Bryant's complaint denies the underlying allegations against him. As Gruel reported, the filing states that Bryant and the other men named in it deny having done anything to the person identified in the litigation by the pseudonym "Doe" in October 2018:

"Bryant claims he and other men never did anything to Doe in October 2018 after she fell into a pool at a party.", Live 5 News

The underlying sexual-assault allegations are contested and unproven, and Bryant denies them; the sentence above reports his denial as stated in the complaint, not an established fact.

Bryant's complaint alleged that Mace's public accusations, made in congressional hearings, floor speeches, and media appearances, were fabricated for personal and political gain rather than rooted in genuine claims. Mace denied Bryant's account entirely, and her response framed the filing as an attempt to extract money from her, referencing a prior sanctions ruling.

All allegations in Bryant's complaint are contested and unproven. Mace denies fabricating any claims. Bryant denies all underlying sexual assault allegations. Litigation between the parties and related defendants remains active in South Carolina courts.
