James McIntyre, 33, of Illinois was arrested and charged with assaulting a government official after a confrontation with Mace at the Rayburn House Office Building; Capitol Police said McIntyre shook Mace's hand 'in an exaggerated, aggressive' manner while saying 'Trans youth deserve advocacy,' though a witness described the encounter as 'a passionate shake' rather than an assault.

Mace said she would need a wrist brace and linked the alleged attack to her positions on transgender issues; she subsequently used the incident in fundraising appeals. McIntyre pleaded not guilty.
