"You all have blood on your hands", Mace confronts sanctuary city mayors
A supercut of three verbatim moments from Rep. Nancy Mace's questioning at the March 5, 2025 House Oversight hearing with sanctuary city mayors from Boston, Chicago, Denver, and New York City, opening on her accusation, then her repeated "right side of history" question to multiple mayors, and Boston Mayor Wu's response.
On March 5, 2025, Rep. Nancy Mace questioned the mayors of Boston, Chicago, Denver, and New York City at a House Oversight Committee hearing on sanctuary city policies. At the outset of her questioning round, she declared: "You all have blood on your hands."
This supercut stitches three verbatim moments from that questioning, each cut from the official committee feed and captioned word-for-word:
- "You all have blood on your hands.", Mace's opening accusation before a series of yes-or-no questions, delivered with all four mayors present.
- "When an illegal alien rapes a woman, do you believe you're on the right side of history?", A question she put to multiple mayors. Mayor Adams of New York asked her to repeat it. Denver Mayor Johnston said he would "charge and prosecute" offenders but did not directly answer the yes-or-no framing. Chicago Mayor Johnson asked for a clarification of the question.
- Mayor Wu's response: "No, rape is obviously horrible.", Boston Mayor Michelle Wu answered the question, then stated: "That is not what's happening in Boston." Mace's follow-up: "Why are you letting rapists back out onto the streets of Boston?"
The mayors dispute Mace's characterization of their policies; they contest the premise that sanctuary policies cause or enable violent crime; the debate over the effects of sanctuary policies is ongoing and contested. What the footage documents is a sitting congresswoman's own words and the mayors' on-the-record responses.
The footage is the official committee hearing feed (a U.S. government work / public domain).
